What if my topic isn’t newsworthy this week?

Trust us, it is. A good way to find out is by setting up a Google news alert for your topic. Be sure it isn’t too vague, but make sure it’s broad enough to capture most of the articles that touch on your issue. (Education would be too broad by itself, but education reform or teacher merit pay would not.) If you’re not sure, play around with it for a while. Or type in several.

Check out this very short tutorial on how to set up an alert.

If you can’t watch the video, the instructions are simple:
1. Go to the Google news alerts page.

2. Type in your issue.

3. Type in your email, making sure you’re all right receiving an email a day. (If you want more than 20 responses, change that feature.)

4. Click OK!
