| Microbe Research Promises Better Future for Biofuel
Discoveries involving microbes and their ability to break down organisms and create ethanol provide exciting possibilities for more efficient, cheaper biofuel production. As scientists modify the microbes, they are able to combine reactions to make the chain reaction, from breaking down to fermenting plant matter, faster and easier. At Macoma Corporation, where a majority of research goes toward biofuels, they have been able to increase production by almost 3,000 times. |
* Headline contains a verb and synopsis of what the story is about
* Blurb does not rely on headline to inform reader; blurb is self-contained and explains what’s going on in this field. Blurb could have said where the Macoma Corporation is located but that’s a very minor flaw. Answers Who, What, When, Where, Why (and maybe How).
* Blurb is well-written — no grammar or spelling errors. (Good idea might be to write in a Word file with spellcheck and copy/paste into quiz field.)
* Source includes entire link.
* Hint: As the GTF who grades the quizzes every week, here’s what I do: I hold up my hand and put down a finger for every W answered. For the third item, I look to see if there’s a headline and a blurb (a source is a plus). A typo or misspelling in the headline costs you the headline point.
